What are SIP Trunks?
SIP (Session Initiation Protocol), is a way to make one or multiple concurrent calls over your internet connection. With CloudVoice SIP Trunks you can grow your business and ability to reach customers, whilst saving money in the long run!
SIP trunks offer virtual phone lines that sit within a fast IP network, which is connected to an IP PBX. All you need to have is an internet connection! Where business may have invested in ISDN technologies as a way to increase their number of calls, these days ISDN is limited as far as modern communications technologies go. We’ve highlighted the reasons for this below.
Problems with ISDN
The difficulty stemming from ISDN can be attributed to a number of factors. It can be difficult to install, and a borderline antiquated way of communicating. Unlike SIP Trunking, ISDN phone lines require a large amount of cumbersome and expensive hardware.
ISDN2 is a solution that only allows two phone lines to be connected. Though ISDN30 offers 30 lines, problems occur when a business requires more than this. For instance, if you had 35 phone lines, you’d likely have to invest in a whole extra ISDN30 connection as well as hardware to go along with it.
You would end up with 60 phone lines rather than 35, and you would have paid good money for each. SIP trunks, on the other hand, are infinitely scalable. They could range from 2 concurrent calls to any number, with a much more competitive price based on your specific needs.

Summary
Whilst there is still a cost for SIP trunks, the scalability in terms of number of concurrent calls, amount of additional features, mobility of less hardware, and adaptability to different office environments make SIP the obvious choice.
